Jason Momoa is set to star in an action-comedy in the vein of True Lies, with the rights picked up by Amazon MGM Studios.
Jason Momoa is everywhere this year. After the box-office success of Minecraft in 2025, he will be back in theaters this summer to play Lobo in Supergirl, then returns in October with a live-action take on Street Fighter in which he will step into the boots of Blanka, and finally in December with Dune 3, where he’ll reprise the role of Duncan Idaho. In a few days, Netflix subscribers will also be able to see him star in the film In the Hand of Dante from Julian Schnabel alongside Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, Martin Scorsese, and Gerard Butler.
The actor also appeared on Prime Video in January with Team Demolition, a goofy Die Hard–style buddy movie with Dave Bautista as his co-star. He will also appear in a second action-comedy with an almost equally clever title, Shots! Shots! Shots!, which Amazon MGM Studios has recently acquired.

Back in May 2022, Jason Momoa was announced as part of the cast and as a producer for Shots! Shots! Shots!, an action-comedy that was then in development at Universal Pictures. Since then, the project had been kept under the radar as the studio redirected its budget strategy. But The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that it has been picked up by Amazon MGM Studios, which smelled opportunity after Team Demolition delivered solid numbers on the streamer.
That said, there’s still a lot to figure out. The screenplay comes from Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows, the duo behind another action-comedy, The Pickup with Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson, also produced by Amazon MGM Studios and released on Prime Video.
What remains, though, is the who and the what. No director has been attached yet, nor any other members of the cast. Plot details are still under wraps, with the project described only as a mash-up of True Lies, Taken, and The Secret of the Lost City (that awkward Sandra Bullock–Channing Tatum film). Consequently, no release date or window has been announced, and it’s unclear whether the film will head straight to Prime Video or get a traditional theatrical run, which seems unlikely at this stage.
There’s also curiosity about which of Momoa’s films will arrive first: Shots! Shots! Shots! or Fast & Furious 11 (aka Fast Forever), slated for March 15, 2028 in France, five years after the last installment Fast X. Momoa will reprise his role as the wildly dangerous antagonist Dante Reyes.
