Brad Pitt’s Dog Steals the Spotlight in the Heart of the Beast Trailer

Paramount has released the trailer for the film Heart of the Beast, in which Brad Pitt leans into a Man vs Wild persona—but with a super dog by his side.

After the action thrillers The Beekeeper and A Working Man, and ahead of the upcoming John Doe, David Ayer is swapping Jason Statham for Brad Pitt in Heart of the Beast.

It’s even a reunion, since the director previously collaborated with the actor in 2014 on Fury, which depicted the final days of World War II. For this next film, Brad Pitt will once again step into the shoes of a soldier, but will change both era and tone.

He will play a veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces in a survival story. After the early footage released a few days ago, Paramount has unveiled a trailer. And without a doubt, the real star of Heart of the Beast won’t be Brad Pitt but Odin, the dog that belongs to his character and absolutely steals the show.

BRAD PITT ODIN VS WILD

In Heart of the Beast, Brad Pitt will portray James Belmont, a veteran of the United States Army Special Forces who has retired to the green, in a remote corner of Alaska with just a sliver of comfort. Beyond the fireside exchanges with the character played by J.K. Simmons, his only companion is his German Shepherd Odin, who is also a fellow veteran. The two must rely on each other to survive after their small plane crashes in the heart of an even more isolated, and thus wilder, landscape. The premise, in fact, echoes The Wolf Territory with Liam Neeson, though the tone in the trailer leans more dramatic than despairing.

The trailer also promises some flashbacks to illustrate the traumas of James and Odin, while making the latter the film’s main selling point. Of course, his backstory, his war wounds, his metal teeth and his prosthetic paw already mark him as the hero of the story—plus the moment when he saves his owner from drowning. And obviously there’s the fear that something could happen to him, since the trailer seems to be gearing us up for a big tearjerker moment.

That said, you might want to direct your complaints to screenwriter Cameron Alexander, who is serving his feature debut here. Additionally, Brad Pitt is also an executive producer of Heart of the Beast through Plan B Entertainment. The film is slated to hit French theaters on September 23, 2026, a few weeks before The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, which will stream on Netflix on December 23.
