Warner has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming dinosaur-centric film starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor: The End of Oak Street.
We have a deep love for the horror film It Follows (which introduced actress Maika Monroe), and an even greater appreciation for Under the Silver Lake with Andrew Garfield, to the point that it sits among our favorite 21st-century films. So naturally, when we learned that director David Robert Mitchell would soon return to the big screen with a dinosaur movie, our eyes lit up. Especially with a cast that includes Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, and other tantalizing keywords like IMAX, time warp, Michael Giacchino, or Mike Gioulakis (the director’s cinematographer on his two previous films).
To heighten the excitement, the filmmaker gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly and cited among his sources of inspiration The Twilight Zone, Poltergeist, The Valley of Gwangi (the incredible 1969 dinosaur movie), Signs, or even “the Amblin films of the 80s” such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Gremlins, The Goonies, or Close Encounters of the Third Kind. And that is exactly what shines through in Warner’s official trailer release.
Jurassic Street
The typically quiet, upscale suburban neighborhood, the Superman cape, the kid who wakes up in the middle of the night, the family dog bearing witness to a supernatural event, the blinding white light, the footprints in the grass, the characters hunted by big dinosaurs, and the action unfolding in the 1980s… No doubt about David Robert Mitchell’s influences.
But rather than a sprawling patchwork of tired ideas, the trailer promises a generous and entertaining reinvention, with polished visual effects (from what we can tell so far) and a young, equally invested cast, notably Christian Convery. He had already proven compelling as the lead in the series Sweet Tooth and in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, where he played the young Victor.
As for the official synopsis, it indeed feels like a long episode of The Twilight Zone: following a cosmic phenomenon, an entire neighborhood is sent back to the prehistoric era. Naturally, the dinosaurs (and not herbivores) drop by, and a meat feast unfolds for them.
As for Anne Hathaway, the actress is currently starring in The Devil Wears Prada 2. She will next appear in The Odyssey on July 15, followed by The End of Oak Street on August 12, 2026, in France.
