The Boys Season 5: Final Episode Runtime Revealed – How It Avoids the Usual Problem

The creator and co-writer of The Boys, Eric Kripke, has revealed the runtime for the finale of season 5, the series’ grand finale.

Since The Boys premiered in 2019 on Prime Video, the show has established itself as one of the platform’s biggest successes. Created and co-written by Eric Kripke, the series has left a mark with the brutality of its scenes that undermines the hero, but also with its sharp critique of the rise of fascism. The character The Protector (Homelander), played by Antony Starr, embodies much of this creeping horror in season 5 of The Boys currently on air.

On the other hand, plenty of information is already circulating about the next steps for The Boys as it wraps up its final season. Recently, news broke of Gen V’s cancellation after season 3, and the upcoming prequel Vought Rising focusing on several of the series’ iconic characters. But back to our Boys (Laz Alonso, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, and Erin Moriarty, among others): the runtime of the finale has just been revealed by Kripke himself and should surprise more than a few fans.

Not One More The Boys Episode

Collider’s Steve Weintraub spoke with creator and co-writer Eric Kripke to ask whether the finale of The Boys would be “extra-long” as some other series do:

“No. It runs about an hour and five minutes. We aren’t doing a massive 90-minute thing. […] I think viewers would have started to get bored if we went that long. But no, it’s about an hour and five minutes, at most an hour and six minutes, I think? In any case, these [final] episodes are really tightly packed.”

The eighth episode of season 5 of The Boys shouldn’t exceed the typical episode length. With a total running time of around 1h05 to 1h06, this finale is surprisingly short compared to other current hit series. For instance, the final episode of season 3 of Euphoria (also airing) is slated to be the longest ever broadcast by HBO.

It’s quite ironic to hear (or rather to read) Eric Kripke discuss the potential boredom of audiences with an overly long finale. Indeed, the creator of The Boys has recently stepped up to push back against fans’ criticisms that season 5 feels particularly slow and thus dull.

Overall, Prime Video series tend to keep their episode lengths steady across seasons, at least for Fallout, The Wheel of Time, or Jack Ryan. This is notable given that finales on other platforms are increasingly longer, whether HBO with Euphoria, as mentioned above, or Netflix with the two-hour-eight min finale of Stranger Things.

The finale of The Boys, for its part, will need to condense a host of answers to fans’ questions into roughly 1h05, while delivering one last confrontation between the major villain The Protector and the Boys, accompanied by Billy Butcher. The fifth season of The Boys has been airing since April 8, 2026 on Prime Video and should wrap with Episode 8 on May 20.
