Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day — Hulk’s Cameo Signals the Arrival of a New Character

The release of the new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is showcasing the explosive return of a Savage Hulk totally unleashed. A beastly presence that could well serve as the moment to link Spider-Man to another MCU character.

According to the tireless Kevin Feige’s recent statements, this Spider-Man: Brand New Day would promise to be a true return to its roots. We’ll see Tom Holland donning the web-slinger’s suit for the fourth time in a solo outing, portraying a Peter Parker completely isolated, lost in a New York that has forgotten him, forced to face on his own his (new) great powers and the great responsibilities that come with them.

After stringing the audience along with a string of painfully ugly official Spider-Man posters and a somewhat cheesy marketing push around the famed Spider Tracker app, Sony has finally released a real trailer for Brand New Day. And one can say the Web-Slinger will have to deal with a formidable lineup of villains, including a Bruce Banner fallen back into Savage Hulk mode, which opens wide the door to the return of a Thunderbolts character.

Spider-Man vs Hulk

The return of the green behemoth raises a huge question within the MCU, considering how the giant has mellowed in recent years. After the long and especially annoying “Smart Hulk” era (that Hulk/Banner with the glasses) that sanitized the character, the brute now seems to have fully lost his grip, to the point of being listed on posters as one of the antagonists. So the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will have to figure out how to bring this monster to reason without risking his own life.

In Marvel’s golden age pre-Endgame, the MCU had only one deadly weapon capable of taming the beast’s destructive fury: the late Natasha Romanoff. The original Black Widow had made a specialty of subduing the beast using her famous magical incantation, the ritual of “The sun is going down” (the sun is about to set). But with the spy absent due to her death, the babysitter job for a giant in crisis is now vacant.

We can imagine an alliance between Spidey and the new Black Widow of the Thunderbolts*/New Avengers to subdue the behemoth (perhaps even signaling the arrival of the complete Thunderbolts* team?), and gently pave the road toward the cataclysm Avengers Doomsday. To verify whether the cameo will indeed happen (or if Sadie Sink/Jean Grey will take Hulk’s mental control), we’ll have to wait until the July 29, 2026, release date of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
