Sony Debuts True RGB Line for Bravia 7 II and 9 II TVs

After staying quiet for many months, Sony is finally stepping into the spotlight with its new True RGB range of televisions.

We had already hinted at this a few days ago: Sony has been keeping mum about its True RGB lineup to pull off a big move with the launch of the first models. It’s fair to say this new technology could be a potential revolution for its high-end TVs.

That said, the Japanese brand has just unveiled its new Bravia 7 II and Bravia 9 II TVs, with specs that could put real pressure on rivals. Here’s the full rundown.

Sony Bravia 7 II and Bravia 9 II: New Benchmarks in the Premium LCD TV Market?

If Sony had previously relied on white backlighting to illuminate its LCD TVs, the brand is now moving to independently controlled red, green, and blue LEDs. A major first.

To kick off this True RGB technology, Sony first unveiled the Bravia 7 II, its most affordable model. It’s available in sizes from 50 to 98 inches, and its price ranges from €1,799 to €2,899. Like the rest of the lineup, it includes True RGB backlighting and Dolby Vision compatibility, and it will undoubtedly be a strategic model for democratizing this technology.

The Bravia 9 II, meanwhile, is the new flagship, offered in 65 to 115 inches and reaching up to €19,999 for the largest. It is expected to feature even more advanced capabilities such as “RGB Triluminos Max” to optimize the backlight, along with an anti-reflective coating to ensure very deep contrasts even in bright rooms.

A New Line of TVs More Efficient Than Ever?

One of Sony’s main selling points is the low energy consumption of these TVs, which could still deliver brightness comparable to OLED models. It’s no accident that other brands are looking at a similar technology, such as Hisense and its RGB MiniLED.

Nonetheless, Sony’s objective is clear: to position premium LCD as a serious competitor to classic MiniLED and OLED. Pre-orders have been open since this past Wednesday, May 27 in France, with the first units shipping by the end of June.
