Sonos App Acting Up Again: Why It Disappeared From the App Store

The Sonos app has been plagued by a variety of bugs for several years and is currently unavailable on the App Store.

In January 2025, the app’s flop prompted CEO Patrick Spence to exit the helm. A year later, the situation hasn’t progressed as it should, and this app remains the Achilles’ heel of one of the best audio ecosystems on the market.

It’s worth noting that it suddenly vanished from the App Store for iOS and Mac, with no explanation from the brand. Fortunately, we may be onto the first clues.

The disappearance of the Sonos app from the App Store raises questions

Problems around the Sonos app have (unfortunately) been commonplace for a long time, even if they can be more or less disruptive to using the company’s devices. And to say the least, its recent drop from the Apple Store presents a real problem.

Currently, the American manufacturer simply acknowledges the issue and says it’s looking for solutions, without pinpointing the cause. Whether it’s direct links to the download page or manual search, nothing works.

But then, how long can this disruption really last? It’s hard to say, though it could be tied to another outage of the Sonos Account service. We’ll just have to wait for the situation to clear up…

A major update on the horizon for the Sonos app?

It isn’t unusual for repeated issues with the Sonos app to trigger a redesign aimed at improving usability. The November 2024 update is a good example of this, even if the relief lasted only a short while for users.

In the current climate, the anticipated evolution would aim to bring on-screen controls to the iPhone lock screen (via “Live Activities”) and smooth out navigation, according to our colleagues at Bloomberg. But before that, let’s hope the user base doesn’t get burned in the process…
