Paranormal Activity 8 is indeed on the way, more than five years after the last installment, and it has revealed the first actor to join its cast.
Five years after the release (direct-to-Paramount+) of its seventh installment, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, the horror saga has been quiet for our great delight. In the meantime, other horror franchises have had time to make their returns, more or less brilliantly, such as Scream, Evil Dead, The Exorcist, and even Scary Movie in a different register. Some already have a head start and are already moving forward with several projects in development, such as The Exorcist: Martyrs slated for 2027 or Evil Dead Wrath in 2028.
The endless nightmare of shakily captured images in the dark couldn’t escape this trend, and in fact, by the end of 2025 we already knew that Paranormal Activity 8 was coming. This new installment will be directed by Ian Tuason. Like Kane Parsons (Backrooms) and Curry Barker (Obsession), he cut his teeth on YouTube before directing Undertone, which follows two people hosting a podcast about… paranormal phenomena.
Thus, it’s an intriguing choice to revive the horror saga that is accelerating production of its eighth chapter with an initial casting announcement.
Paranormal Activity Still Going Strong
Deadline has announced the addition of Chase Yi to the cast of Paranormal Activity 8, an actor who is currently fairly unknown to the general public. His most significant role has been in the latest season of Mythic Quest: The Raven’s Banquet, released in 2025. He has also made modest appearances in other series such as WandaVision, The Rehearsal, Hacks, High Potential, or even The Rookie: Feds.
For now, we don’t know what role he will play in the upcoming Paranormal Activity whose synopsis has not yet been unveiled.
One can nevertheless imagine that the saga will retain its found footage format (unless it takes another detour like Next of Kin), that there will be strange events (such as doors slamming closed) and perhaps even a possession case or two. In short, the usual formula that has sparked love or hate among fans of Paranormal Activity over the past decade.
The pace is expected to accelerate even more for Paranormal Activity 8, with a release date announced for May 19, 2027 in France. In the meantime, audiences can finally discover Undertone, which premiered at the Fantasia International Festival in Canada in 2025 and whose theatrical release in France is planned from August 12, 2026.
