Netflix has just released the first teaser for the final season of Outer Banks, along with a release date for the Pogues’ last adventures.
Since its 2020 premiere, Outer Banks has been a major hit for Netflix and for its creators, writers and producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke. A success that has endured, as season four, dropped in 2024, stayed eight weeks in Netflix’s global top 10 of English-language series and racked up a total of 49.6 million complete views.
So, even if critics aren’t always convinced by the show, fans are surely eagerly awaiting the Pogues’ final adventures. Two years later, a first teaser for season 5 has just been unveiled, along with a release date.
Outer banks-able
The Pogues are on the edge after JJ’s tragic disappearance in Morocco. Trapped far from home, they find themselves exposed to a long list of dangers and left bereft after losing their treasure. John B. (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) have no choice but to team up with Rafe (Drew Starkey) to get out of trouble. More than anything, what they’re seeking is revenge, freedom and a chance to reclaim what’s theirs.
While many threats still loom—Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) still on the run, Dalia (Pollyanna McIntosh), the Corsairs hot on their heels and the Kooks not hesitating to take away everything they’ve got, even a semblance of home—the Pogues are far from defeated. In this first trailer, we already see them taking action across chase sequences, massive explosions and a prison break worthy of an episode of Prison Break.
Although there is still plenty to accomplish, fans should find ample payoff in this final season. That’s the pledge made by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke to audiences after the Season 4 finale in an interview with Deadline: “When we get to the end, I think everyone will be satisfied to see that we’ve tied everything up and that all the stories are finished.”
The grand finale of Outer Banks is slated for August 20 in France. The ten episodes of Season 5 are expected to be released all at once, rather than in two parts—as was the case with the previous season.
