Masters of the Universe: A Goofy, Cringe-Worthy Skeletor Excerpt

Amazon has released a new clip from the film Masters of the Universe featuring the villains Skeletor and Evil-Lyn. The sequence embraces a kitschy, parodic tone, a sharp departure from the latest epic trailers.

The landing is shaping up to be rough for the new take on Masters of the Universe. The blockbuster lands in American theaters at the exact moment when the heavyweight titles Obsession and Backrooms are dominating the global box office. Despite the competition, Amazon still seems to believe in the potential of its creature, even treating it to an IMAX release for the film He-Man.

While Jeff Bezos’ company thumps its chest across the Atlantic, France, for its part, has been purely and simply denied a theatrical release. Masters of the Universe will premiere directly on Prime Video at a later date. That said, this reboot looks set to mark the starting point for a massive franchise relaunch, with a brand-new animated series He-Man already in the works. And to keep the momentum after trailers focusing on Prince Adam, a new clip has finally highlighted the infernal duo of Evil-Lyn and Skeletor.

Masters of the Universe in Internet Meme Mode

This new video preview confirms the production’s decidedly parody-driven and outrageous direction. The chief villain Skeletor appears far more hammy and grotesque than genuinely threatening. The same goes for his loyal ally Evil-Lyn, who looks entirely detached from the situation. In other words, Amazon MGM Studios seems to have deliberately leaned into a quirky, retro vibe to dust off the license.

We’re practically flirting with a nod to famous Internet memes as Skeletor rattles off over-the-top chuckles while his minions stare on with bemused disdain. While the overall visual rendering is still pretty rough, the package carries a certain charm thanks to that unapologetic silliness. The caveat is that some lines come through almost inaudible, a flaw we’ll attribute to the voice effects used for Jared Leto’s performance.

This sequence, fun as it is, serves as the perfect showcase for the lineup of monsters gathered around the lord Skeletor. Beside Alison Brie in the role of Evil-Lyn, we meet Tri-Klops (Kojo Attah), Karg (Hung Dante Dong) and Spikor (James Apps). To round out this merry cadre of misfits, the giant Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson will lend his impressive physique to Goat Man.

American audiences will be able to enjoy this heroic caper very soon, as Masters of the Universe hits theaters this Friday, June 5, 2026. As for us poor French fans, we’ll have to bide our time and wait for Prime Video to add the title to its catalog for streaming “later.”
