Lucky: Explosive Trailer Teases Anya Taylor-Joy on the Run in an Apple TV+ Series

Anya Taylor-Joy is back on the small screen with Lucky, an Apple TV+ limited series for which an initial teaser dropped last February. A new, action-packed trailer filled with explosions has just been unveiled.

Following the success of The Queen’s Gambit in 2020 on Netflix, Anya Taylor-Joy returns in the Apple TV+ limited series Lucky, adapted from Marissa Stapley’s best-selling novel of the same name published in 2021. The British-American actress will star as Lucky, who is pursued by the FBI and the mob after a heist with disastrous consequences.

This isn’t her first collaboration with the platform, since she previously headlined the film The Gorge, a title that didn’t fare well with critics in 2025. She’s a familiar face in Apple TV productions, with showrunner Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, Warrior) at the helm for Lucky. It’s a natural pick after Tropper’s work on the series See, featuring Jason Momoa as a blind man yet still capable of throwing blows in a post-apocalyptic world, and on True Neighbors, False Friends, with Jon Hamm playing the apprentice burglar’s mentor. Joining Taylor-Joy are Cassie Pappas (Silo) as co-creator, and screenwriter Kevin Rosen (Driven, Preacher).

After a teaser released in February, the platform has now unveiled the first official trailer for the series.

Lucky Bad Luck

Following Furiosa in 2024, it comes as no surprise to see Anya Taylor-Joy playing a woman who’s cornered but resourceful, at the center of an high-octane story (still grounded in a sense of realism). Indeed, this first trailer appears to reveal a bit more of the plot, notably the moment when her boyfriend runs off with a large sum of money belonging to the mob (and incidentally to the boyfriend’s mother). The heroine remains far from defeated by adversity, as she’s seen sprinting across rooftops in Tom Cruise fashion, shedding crocodile tears, or donning disguises to escape precarious situations.

In the role of Lucky, the character embodies traits that call to mind other formidable cinematic women who do whatever it takes to survive in a merciless world. Think Atomic Blonde, the 2017 Charlize Theron thriller in which a MI6 agent fights her way through dangerous intrigue, or Red Sparrow (2018) with Jennifer Lawrence, a former ballet star recruited by Russian intelligence. On the TV side, one can also draw parallels with Killing Eve and Jodie Comer’s talent for changing appearances on the fly.

Lucky brings together a high-profile ensemble around Anya Taylor-Joy, including Annette Bening in the role of Priscilla, the formidable mob boss; Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (Ray, Quantico, The Book of Negroes) as Agent Billie Rand, the series’ second major adversary; and Timothy Olyphant (Die Hard 4, Hitman, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) as Lucky’s father, who appears in the trailer.

The first two episodes of Lucky will be released on July 15, 2026, exclusively on Apple TV+, with the season’s run expected to conclude with the sixth episode on August 19.
