Disclosure Day: Why It Will Divide, and Why That’s a Good Thing

Steven Spielberg is back in theaters with Disclosure Day, a new alien-themed film headlined by Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor.

Steven Spielberg hadn’t directed a film since The Fabelmans in 2022 and hadn’t touched aliens since War of the Worlds in 2005 (or the ending of Indiana Jones 4 in 2008). The release of Disclosure Day is thus a double event, since Hollywood’s favorite uncle is back in theaters with a new alien story that not only echoes his E.T., but especially his Close Encounters of the Third Kind from 1977 (1978 in France).

One could even say the two films form a cinematic diptych, which will certainly please some, but a major flaw for others. It wouldn’t be surprising if this new feature divides audiences and critics in particular, that it irritates some, is fiercely defended by others, and fuels heated debates in the years to come in addition to being dissected from every angle. And that is precisely what makes it so fascinating, as explained in our video review below.
