Asterix: High-Energy Trailer for The Kingdom of Nubia, the Gauls’ New Adventure

A new trailer has been unveiled for the upcoming animated film Asterix – The Kingdom of Nubia. It marks the return of the iconic Gaulish duo to the big screen.

The comic books by Uderzo and Goscinny have had their share of good and bad adaptations, especially in recent years. If Guillaume Canet’s live-action The Middle Empire, released in 2023, was a disaster, the 2025 Netflix series The Battle of the Chiefs was fortunately a very pleasant surprise on the animation side. It is now the turn of screenwriters (and directors) Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière to craft the new Gaulish adventures: Asterix – The Kingdom of Nubia.

This original story has been entrusted to director Alexandre Heboyan, who will mark his second feature ten years after Mune, The Guardian of the Moon. We will still hear Christian Clavier reprise the voice of Asterix (after voicing him in Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion and previously in three live-action films) while François-Xavier Demaison will voice Obelix for the first time. The duo remains at the heart of the newly unveiled trailer, though all hopes seem to rest on Obelix.

Asterix in Search of the Baobab Seed in the Haystack

The village of indomitable Gauls is once again in danger: the brave villagers have all turned back into children after a youth-elixir was mixed with the famous and essential magic potion. All? No! Asterix and Obelix are commissioned by Panoramix for a mission that takes them far from their homeland of Gaul to locate baobab seeds and save everyone. Off they go to Nubia and the African boars for the mythic duo from the comics.

This new trailer reveals a bit more about the film and, in particular, what the adventure will look like once our heroes reach Nubia. On one side, Obelix seems to be in command almost single-handedly, while on the other, Asterix appears to be living a peaceful, childlike life.

A new spy has been sent after them, and this one seems far craftier than an entire garrison (which isn’t that hard to beat). On the village side, the Romans don’t appear to be the biggest threat, at least not for Panoramix, who seems to struggle with his role as babysitter. Asterix – The Kingdom of Nubia hits French theaters on December 2.
